Hi everyone,

I'm interested in learning more about proportional valve actuators and how they operate in real-world applications.

Rather than focusing on basic definitions, I'd like to hear from people who work with or specify these devices regularly. What are the most important things to understand when selecting, configuring, or troubleshooting proportional actuators?

Some topics that might be worth discussing:

How proportional actuators differ from simple on/off actuators
Common control signals and feedback methods
Typical applications and use cases
Accuracy and repeatability considerations
Frequent installation or commissioning issues
Maintenance and reliability concerns
Best practices for tuning and control

What questions would you ask an expert on this topic, and what practical lessons have you learned from using proportional valve actuators?

Looking forward to the discussion.

Regarding use of proportional valves, I would highly recommend looking at the details within the Electronic Control Specialist (ECS) study manual as that certification focuses on electronic control of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, specifically proportional and servo valves.  https://www.ifps.org/electronic-controls-specialist-certification

We also have several educational videos and webinars specific to electrohydraulic control and proportional valves available to our members.  You must be logged into the website in order to view. https://www.ifps.org/educational-and-training-videos-members-only#Electro-Hydraulics

Hopefully these resources will get you started in learning more about proportional valves.

The ECS study manual sounds like a great starting point for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of proportional and servo valve control, and the electrohydraulic training materials look especially useful for practical applications.
